Effective date: 7 August 2026
1. Who we are
This website, tauholdings.com, is operated by Tau Meridian Partners (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2021/801135/07, a private company incorporated in South Africa on 11 August 2021, with its registered address at 37 Farm JQ37 Kaalfontein, Magaliesburg, Krugersdorp, Gauteng, 1739.
In this policy, “we”, “us”, “our” and “TAU” refer to Tau Meridian Partners (Pty) Ltd. We are the responsible party for the personal information described below, as that term is used in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
TAU is an African-led engineering, infrastructure, renewable energy and industrial supply group. The Group is made up of separate legal entities operating in South Africa, Zambia, Angola, Malawi, Namibia and the United Kingdom. Each is a distinct company. This policy covers this website only. It does not cover websites operated by other Group companies, each of which publishes its own policy.
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what rights you have.
It does not cover personal information we obtain outside this website, such as through tender processes, supplier onboarding or employment applications. Those are handled separately.
3. What we collect
3.1 Information you give us
When you complete an enquiry or quotation form on this website, we collect the information you enter into it. This is typically your name, your email address, your telephone number, your company name and the content of your message.
We use this information only to respond to you and to keep a record of the enquiry.
3.2 Information you give our online assistant
This website includes an online assistant that uses artificial intelligence to answer questions about our products and services and to direct enquiries to the right part of our business.
If you use the assistant, we collect the messages you send it, the responses it gives, and the date and time of the conversation. If you choose to give the assistant your name, email address, telephone number or company name so that we can follow up with you, we collect that as well.
The assistant is operated on our behalf by Chatbase. Conversations are processed on systems located outside South Africa, and are processed by the artificial intelligence providers that Chatbase uses to generate responses. Please see section 6.
Please do not send confidential or sensitive information through the assistant. It is intended for general questions about our products and services. If your enquiry is confidential, please contact us by email instead.
3.3 Information collected automatically
Our web server records technical information about each visit, including your IP address, the pages you view, the date and time, the website that referred you, and your browser and device type. This is standard web server logging and happens on every website you visit.
We use this to keep the website secure and available. We do not use it to build a profile of you.
3.4 What we do not collect
We do not knowingly collect special personal information as defined in POPIA, meaning information about religious or philosophical beliefs, race or ethnic origin, trade union membership, political persuasion, health, sex life, biometric information or criminal behaviour. Please do not send us this kind of information through this website.
We do not sell personal information. We do not operate a mailing list, and we do not currently use analytics or advertising software on this website.
4. Why we process your information
| Purpose | Lawful basis under POPIA |
|---|---|
| Responding to your enquiry and preparing quotations | Necessary to conclude or perform a contract, and our legitimate interests |
| Answering your questions through our online assistant and directing your enquiry | Our legitimate interests, and necessary to conclude or perform a contract |
| Keeping records of enquiries, quotations and orders | Legal obligation and legitimate interests |
| Keeping the website secure and available | Legitimate interests |
| Complying with tax, company and other legal obligations | Legal obligation |
| Loading third party content such as maps | Your consent |
If we later wish to use your information for a purpose materially different from those above, we will tell you first and, where the law requires it, ask your consent.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only as set out below.
Within the Group
Where your enquiry relates to a service delivered by another Group company, we may pass it to that company so it can respond. Group companies are separate legal entities in the six countries listed in section 1.
Service providers
We use third parties to operate this website and to communicate with you. Each of them processes personal information only on our instructions.
| Provider | Role |
|---|---|
| Bluehost | Website hosting, database storage and email |
| SureContact | Delivery of enquiry notification emails |
| Chatbase | Operation of our online assistant, including the processing of conversations |
| Complianz | Cookie consent management |
| Map embeds on our Contact page, loaded only after you consent |
Other disclosures
We may disclose personal information where the law requires it, where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim, or to professional advisers who are bound by confidentiality.
6. Information sent outside South Africa
Our website and database are hosted by Bluehost, a Newfold Digital brand. We are in the process of obtaining written confirmation from our hosting provider of the physical location of the servers on which our website files and database are stored. The service we use to deliver enquiry notification emails also operates outside South Africa.
Our online assistant is operated by Chatbase, whose systems are located outside South Africa. Conversations with the assistant, including any personal information you enter into it, are processed there and by the artificial intelligence providers that Chatbase uses to generate responses. Those providers may be located in further countries.
Personal information collected through this website is therefore processed outside the Republic of South Africa. Where personal information is transferred outside South Africa, we take reasonable steps to ensure that it is subject to a level of protection substantially similar to that required under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013, including by relying on our hosting provider’s data processing terms. This section will be updated once written confirmation has been received.
Because the TAU Group operates in six countries, your information may also be shared with a Group company outside South Africa where that company is the one able to assist you.
For any queries regarding cross-border transfers, contact us at info@taumeridian.co.za.
7. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it.
- Enquiry emails and website form submissions: three years from the date of your last contact with us
- Conversations with our online assistant: three years from the date of the conversation
- Quotation and order records: five years, which is the minimum period required by tax legislation
- Web server logs: retained by our hosting provider according to its standard practice
Where we no longer have a lawful reason to keep your information, we delete it or de-identify it. Some records must be kept for longer under tax and company legislation, and we retain those for the period the law requires.
8. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- be told what personal information we hold about you, and to request a copy of it
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or unlawfully obtained
- ask us to delete or destroy information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep
- object to processing that we base on our legitimate interests
- withdraw your consent, where we rely on consent
- complain to the Information Regulator
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 12. We may need to verify your identity before we act on a request.
A formal request for access to records is made on the form prescribed under the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000, and a prescribed fee may apply.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, damage and unauthorised access.
Traffic between your browser and this website is encrypted in transit using TLS. Access to the systems that hold enquiry information is restricted to people who need it.
No system is completely secure. If a security compromise affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by section 22 of POPIA.
10. Our Information Officer
Under section 56 of POPIA, the head of our organisation is our Information Officer.
Our Information Officer is responsible for encouraging compliance with POPIA, dealing with requests made to us under the Act, and working with the Information Regulator.
You can contact our Information Officer by email at info@taumeridian.co.za, marked for the attention of the Information Officer.
